Pulse Survey One Year Results

What was the most memorable story, image, or video you have seen in The Pulse? Please send us any other other comments, suggestions, or story ideas for The Pulse.
The story about the baby who was saved who was saved in the E.D.  I, personally would like to see more than one question per week answered by Dr. Andy.
I really liked the series on the UCONN Health Fire Department and how they were the leaders in the state to bring the EMT training/programs to CT.
UCONN husky Christmas Video
Publish more of the Dr Andys. More than one per week. Include some of the less than positive ones too.
I would say the employee/patient stories were the most memorable from the Pulse.  New series idea. What it takes to be a ‘Job Role Name’. In this series, we would look at what it takes to be in a specific job role (from a HR perspective to employee in the role perspective) and provide guidance on how one could achieve such a designation. To start the series off, we could look at Greentree data for the current FY and then sort by most applications received. Providing the UConn Health community with career direction would definitely pay off in the long haul. (this ties into other ideas I have about career development of our resources)
How Dr. Andy handles the “tough” questions.
Would like to see more questions and answers, better communication to the staff.
The opening of the new hospital
It would be nice if Dr. Andy answered substantive questions.
The story on the woman who was brought here by her daughter with chronic ongoing issues and UConn helped her to resolve those medical issues. Dr. Jeff Indes was featured in this story.  I would like to see stories on “super Employees” meaning myself along with several others who work here, get treated and/or diagnosed here, have cancer, heart surgeries, radiation, mastectomies, etc., yet come to work and continue to strive and flourish as well as be great UConn employees..
The story of the lab staff successfully resuscitating an infant.
The young woman who’s mother brought her into ED and it was quickly discovered that she was having a heart attack and her life was saved.
Dr. Andy is the only thing I read.
Many of the most important, legitimate concerns that are submitted to Dear Dr. Andy are ignored.
Pictures of the view from University Tower  It’s nice to know what’s going on throughout the organization and to be engaged as a community.
Holiday time. Seeing all the survey’s of family activities. Spot lighting on each department and employee and in the out patient pavilion. That was very nice to see.

Can you please add the feature to view in browser at the top of each notice “Trouble viewing this email? Click Here to View in Browser”. That would assist in sharing with others as a link in email announcements. Thank you!
I loved reading about the courier who walks several miles a day and delivers and picks up items all over UConn Health. I see him all the time and now know more about him and his background. I was able to compliment him on the article. This connection is important for morale. We are all connected here and the more we know about each other the better it is for patients and staff.  I think the Dear Andy column is selective in terms of the questions. My guess is that there are a lot of questions sent that may not be very positive or may be difficult to answer. I think Dr. Andy needs to tackle some of these questions so we know he is aware of the issues and is trying to work with us as a community. Even if he doesn’t know the answer, it’s ok to admit that. It would validate that he is realistic and honest and that he is working with us. I support Dr. Andy 100% and want to be part of making UConn the best it can be!
The young mother who came in the ED and went into cardiac arrest. She was previously diagnosed with seizures, our Cardiology team discovered an arrhythmia, she went to the cath lab and had a defib placed
While Ask Dr. Andy is pretty good, I think there could be more serious questions that are answered more often. Maybe less questions about shrubbery, trees and landscaping in general. I don’t know for a fact, but I assume there must be more serious matters that get asked about.
Employee engagement…meaning, things that different departments do on their own to promote camaraderie and a positive work environment.
The story about George, the volunteer, because it was about a person who contributes so much here in his supportive role. Those involved in direct patient care are awarded with the satisfaction that comes from caring directly for a patient. It is the maintenance worker, or housekeeper in the research building, or IT person, or administrative support of faculty, the police, that is heartwarming to see them recognized. All of us matter, and his story demonstrated that to me.  I appreciate being asked in this survey! Thanks!
I would like to see Dr. Andy address and change things that impact employees, like the shuttle and parking situation. Little concern is given for the additional time required everyday just to get into and out of work. Also, Patients often have difficulty walking the great distances inside and outside the facilities to get where they need to go.
The history of the ambulance service.  More pictures of events. For instance, at the Fall Fair, Health Fair, National Nutrition month (this month held by Sodexo), and of normal everyday activities here on UConn Health’s campus.
The two clinical lab people that saved the baby’s life. I enjoy stories about employees that go above and beyond.  It would be great to have more “unsung hero” stories about people who work at UConn Health. The typical heroes are of course our clinical folks, our public safety people, and our researchers who work toward lifesaving cures every day. But are there stories about fellow staff members who thought of an innovative way to save money, or who volunteer in the community, or who consistently try to make UConn Health a better place to work?
Recently in the dear Dr. Andy section there was a line that stated that he personally responds to each and every submitted question. That’s actually not true. I submitted a question on January 10, 2017 regarding the status of the new employee fitness center that was mentioned last year. No one ever responded or acknowledged my question.
I enjoyed all the patient stories, so it’s hard to choose just one.
I much prefer reading The Pulse over the daily Lifeline. Do not like the setup of the Lifeline and would prefer to go back to the Broadcast Message format.
can’t say as anything really stands out. Maybe the one that covered the employee Amado. I felt that it was wonderful to see someone other than a Doctor, Nurse or management get recognized as without some of these employees this place would not run as it does  you should do a story on the many volunteers that come in weekly and gladly do a wonderful job without a whole lot of recognition and they do it for free with a smile on their face and are not always treated properly.
The story that was most memorable was about the two staff that saved the baby most recently. One was named Restrepo. I sent both emails recognizing them. I feel very strongly about employee recognition needing to be increased here at UConn Health.  Dr. Andy questions are starting to sound like repeats and canned. Many times the questions are irrelevant and too benign to what people really want to see here. Dr. Andy made a point during a town hall that he was going to focus on employee recognition and weeding out bad managers. Well, the bad managers are still here, and people are still in fear of retaliation to report them.
 Paramedics story
The story of the young woman who went to the ER just in time which saved her from sudden cardiac death.
The new hospital tower tour with Jonathan the Husky.   Love The Pulse!
View | Mark read | Trash
The article about Peter Frost and how he spoke of his disability and shared it to help others to educate and inspire them.
Loved seeing the Holiday decorations throughout the hospital
It would be nice to see ANYTHING related to the UCONN employees who work for Correctional Managed Health Care- in the FACILITIES!
Photo album of young athlete’s recovery. Is there a way to find old issues of the Pulse? I like all the sections and couldn’t pick one I didn’t like. Sometimes I don’t go into a section because the topic doesn’t grab me, but it’s not the section per se.
Can you publish more of the questions that come to the Dear Dr. Andy feature?
I loved the story of the doctor who drove by someone having a medical emergency in their front yard and saved the day.  Nothing like crying happy tears at your desk on a Thursday afternoon. I really look forward to receiving The Pulse every Thursday.  Thanks to everyone who contributes!
Dr. Andy’s answer about the new signs. Dr. Andy’s column should have more questions and answers (not just one).  Today there is just a statement, there was no question from staff.  Statements should be elsewhere.
I thoroughly enjoyed the series on the paramedics and the history of them at the health center and the state.
I loved the photos and video of the children at the day care center singing at the holidays. The Pulse is a great way to keep everyone informed.  I look forward to reading through it each week.
construction updates this is a good resource for anyone involved on the UCHC campus
Take a picture of something at UConn Health that is not obvious, let the employees guess what the picture is of, out of the correct answers someone wins a prize.
There are so many good working people that work here that never get recognized or rewarded. That is so bad for moral. I have yet to see anything done for people like me. I have never been rewarded and that makes my attitude for my job stink.

Sorry to be a downer, but I am not a happy camper.

I’m kind of new at UConn – hired 3 months ago.  It’s nice to learn more about the Health Center.
Center on Aging Valentines Day couple story (video)

JDH patient move day story & video

I am not sure I have a favorite, but in general I like being informed of what is happening, whether it applies to me or not. As the Coordinator of the Volunteers, I share this publication with all of my volunteers. It is a great way to keep them informed of what is happening, as well. As the Coordinator of the Volunteers, I share this publication with all of our volunteers. It is a great way to keep them informed of what is happening, as well.  I have received many emails thanking me for sharing it with them. They also find it very informative!

So, Thank you!

I enjoy reading everything that the PULSE has to offer. Everything written is most memorable. Can the dental clinics be mentioned & recognized? All staff feel like we are felt out. Our dental clinics are going under major renovations & there are never any pictures or updates to show what the new patient clinic areas are going to look like. I have been employed here for 37yrs. & dental has never been mentioned for any achievements. Every year there is nurses week & there is also Dental Assistants week in March that we are never recognized for. I feel that we are part of UConn that makes it what it is today.

I wish the pulse was able to post at least 2 Dear Dr. Andy per week. I read to see if people are sharing concerns like I have especially for cost saving ideas.
The videos of the new hospital opening
history of EMS
Opening of the new hospital tower.
The stories are all very memorable and very important.  The one about the staff saving the baby still makes me cry. Keep up the great work!
the best story was when the staff person in blood draw help a little baby breathe again when it stopped breathing
everything was memorable, inspirational and gave me the sense of pride to be attached with such fabulous/caring individuals. I call it my information highway. My goal is to make sure everyone takes a couple minutes to read and reflect.

thank you all

There is not one story that sticks out but the variety allows there to be something for everyone. We are supposed to be “one” with Storrs and satellites.  It would be nice to have a section on whats happening elsewhere so that we can connect better.  The LifeLine has started putting in events that take place at Storrs that everyone can attend.
Halloween photos, More representation from staff or employees would be nice, eas, coordinators, admin, managers keep uch going but have very little representation. Suggestion: video interviews Title: I like working at UCH because…..film admin staff, deans, excecutives, janitors saying why they like working here, create a video montage of answers. Also  i would like to see research focused stories. I see lots of clinical but little about what is happening, success or challenges in research.
I have sent a couple questions to Dr. Andy and appreciated a quick response to my question.  It’s nice to know someone is listening to our concerns that get answered.
Although the items in the Pulse are informative, I think employees would appreciate more info pertinent to them. For example, Dr. Andy is very popular because he addresses questions that are on the minds of most employees.

More information related to work/life balance would be welcome, as well as profiles of various departments and services. For example, who is in charge of producing the Pulse and who works in that department?
